In Mayor Woodworth’s court Friday evening Robert W. Miller, 30, of Athens route 3, was fined 5 and costs after pleading guilty to an assault charge led by his wife Mary Miller. Alfred Deal, 40, of The Plains, was bound over to the Grand Jury after pleading not guilty to a charge filed by his wife Emma Deal and released under $200. Sheriff Bateman had arrested him Thursday.

Missing Sgt Wayne L Martin in 1944 Holland action
Sergeant Wayne L Martin son of Roy and [redacted] Martin of Lower Salem reported missing in action over Holland since September 23. Tail gunner on a B 26 Marauder in the 9th Air Force he had flown about 30 missions and was to be sent home soon. He held the Air Medal and three oak leaf clusters and the Silver and Bronze Stars for combat duty. Entered the Air Forces February 9 1943 and earned his wings at Kingman Arizona in November. He went overseas last February. His wife and infant son live in Zanesville. He leaves six siblings. one brother in Zanesville and another, Cpl Earl Martin, at Camp Haan California.
