Kansas City physician Dr. E. E. Paddock, expert in liver and gall bladder diseases, promotes medicine over surgery for gallstones. He claims many cases respond to treatment, reserving operation for emergencies, and offers a free booklet “The Liver and Gall Bladder” by mail.
In a First Christian Church sermon Rev. M. Fr. Chatley warns that companionate marriage undermines youth and society. He cites Judge Ben Lindsey and Doctor Knight, argues it reduces to childless unions, promotes birth control, and risks trial marriages and free love, urging traditional family values.
Waltonians will elect two delegates at 7:30 p m Tuesday at the City Building for the Isaak Walton League of America state convention in Toledo October 25 and 26. The Ohio Conservation Council plan calls for a bi partisan Ohio Department of Conservation with a paid free of salary board to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Indefinite postponement of local Girl Scout meetings due to injuries from the Hotel Berry fire. Regional director Miss Raychell was hurt and Miss Mitchell remains in Sheltering Arms Hospital with a broken ankle and back injuries after leaping from a second floor window to reach Baker's cafeteria roof. The start of classes is unknown. Mrs Bain, Athens Girl Scout commissioner, says only that the schedule is on hold.
The Elizabeth Zane Dew Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a meeting at the American Legion home in Nelsonville with 26 members. Two new members were welcomed, and the program featured music, readings on history, a flag ceremony, and a planned November 17 luncheon with guest speaker Mrs. Asa C. Messenger.
Charles E. Poston from Nelsonville has developed serious eye trouble and left for Grant Hospital in Columbus to undergo treatment and observation for about two weeks.

Nelsonville City Schools will dismiss Thursday afternoon and Friday due to Southeastern Ohio Teachers Association sessions in Portsmouth. Junior and Senior High will run 8 am to 12 pm with 30 minute classes eight recitations. grades have half day Thursday. Local teachers are 100 percent in state and Southeastern associations. separate banquets and nationwide speakers planned.
On October 22 the Buchtel Old Timers defeated a Marshfield Carbondale Nelsonville combination 7 to 4. The game, part of the Korn Festival, saw the veterans surge after a 2 to 2 tie late in the third inning and dominate the rest of the contest.

Irene Vanbibber aged 11 died Sunday evening at her parents home after a quinsy illness. She is survived by her parents Mr and Mrs Jessie Vanbibber and several brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Nelsonville Oct 22 employees of the Athena Glazed Brick Company honored the Athena Factory baseball team for its fine record with a outing to the State Michigan game in Columbus, a theatre party at the Ohio, and a dinner hosted by Mr and Mrs Enoch Pugh. Nine team members attended the dinner with six Nelsonville friends.
James Pierce aged 28 a married man from Buchtel and employed at Mine No 36 of the Manhattan Coal Company suffered a badly crushed left foot when caught between a mine car and a motor. He was removed to his home in Nelsonville on October 22.

Funeral services for Wayne Faires will be held Tuesday at 1 PM at the Church of Christ with Rev. F. E. Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood cemetery.

Glouster Ohio October meeting of the P T A was led by president Mrs F E Roberts at the school house. Mrs Agnes Clark and Mrs Roberts reported on the state convention. New P T A songs were sung, and officers expect substantial benefits to the schools this year.
A plane carrying a naval lieutenant and a mechanic passed over Glouster on Saturday afternoon while a ball game was in progress at the American Legion grounds. The pilot appeared to be heading toward Columbus and kept a high speed, circling near Gate station as he tried to get bearings.
Mary Jane Hall, 84, died at 4 AM at 60 Stimson Avenue Athens from complications after influenza. Widow of Leander Hall, she lived in Athens 20 years and was a member of First M ks Church. Survived by son W Loring Hall and daughter Linnie L Hall, burial at Bicknell Chapel Great Bend Meigs County. Funeral 1:15 PM Wednesday at home. She was born in Sardis and had eight siblings, with one brother George Thompson remaining in Portland Meigs County.
The Kiwanis group in Athens will hold its weekly meeting at 5 30 PM tonight in the Ohio University cafeteria located in the Agricultural Building. The change is due to a fire at Hotel Berry earlier today.
An application for executive clemency for Ben Rudner of Massillon, filed with Governor Donahey last Saturday by Kedgwin H. Powell of Youngstown, will be forwarded to the Board of Clemency for consideration, the governor's office announced.
Ohio State University horticulture specialist and a professor will inspect two young Athens County orchards with county extension agent T. H. Johnson on Tuesday afternoon. One orchard is owned by EK Brandeberry in Coolville, the other by Miss Faye Cline of Albany. They will assess adherence to Ohio State Agricultural College guidance and provide management instructions.
