Kentucky river plan would designate most interstate waters for recreation
Kentucky's Water Pollution Control Commission approved a draft regulation mapping interstate rivers for recreational use. Virtually all of the Cumberland and portions of the Ohio would gain recreation status, with protections for public water supply. The Ohio segment near Paducah to Shawnee town bar spans 78 miles, plus other specified stretches. The plan faces a public hearing November 30 and includes concerns from Assistant Attorney General Robert Bullock about preserving the current status quo.

National Approach Needed to Fight Pollution Says Hickel
Former Interior Secretary Walter Hickel urged a national approach and attitude to curb U S pollution in a Cincinnati interview. He argued that cleaning rivers requires nationwide action not partial fixes, and that momentum exists for environmental cleanup despite slow progress. He noted technology exists to address air and water pollution and speculated Nixon would likely win if the 1972 election were held then.
