Dr Rafael Diaz Balart 33 a former brother in law of Fidel Castro says he leads the White Rose movement with thousands of guerrillas opposing the Castro regime in Cuba. He states the group respects all who oppose Castro but operates independently of other factions.
In Lancaster Pennsylvania Charles Wantz a oyster shucker at a local market found 48 pearls in one oyster Tuesday. Professor John S McDermott biologist at Franklin and Marshall College called the find unprecedented and Wantz donated the pearls to the school's biology department.
President Eisenhower leaves Washington for a five day visit to Augusta Georgia hoping sun and golf will help shake a lingering cold. He flies Colu mbine II in clear conditions with rain forecast and warmer temperatures than the capital. Press secretary Hagerty says the President is in excellent health.
A 26 year old mother of two, Cordelia Francis Byus, died in a one vehicle crash on Route 62 near Point Pleasant. Her husband, Russell Byus, 32, survived with minor injuries and said another truck forced them off the highway. The truck rolled several times, miring both occupants and ending on its right side. Also noted was a Supreme Court stay of execution for Caryl Chessman in Washington.
Albert Stone Jr the 82 year old financier left 17 million to the Permanent Charity Fund of Greater Boston. The bequest, the largest to a community trust, funds charitable work via income from stock holdings and bank deposits. Stone who died May 10 had a shoe business background and later real estate ties. Sidney Stone a cousin is the sole living relative. The fund’s trustee is Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Co with William W Wolbach its president noting Stone’s quiet life and late health.
Daryl Chessman asked his attorney to cremate his remains and scatter the ashes after death. San Quentin officials will not permit scattering, and Miss Asher says the law requires the body to be placed in a mausoleum.
The Ohio Supreme Court ruled the metropolitan federation amendment to appear on the November 3 ballot could not be included due to the failure to journalize the complete text of the proposal during General Assembly sessions. The five to two decision removes the measure from ballot consideration.
Columbus Police Chief George W. Scholer is elected as president of the Ohio Association of Police Chiefs, signaling leadership among state law enforcement executives.
At the Portsmouth naval ship yard the nuclear submarine Nautilus is under investigation for damage described as apparently intentional. Capt. Carl A. Johnson, acting shipyard commandant, said the damage seems to be limited to electrical cables during a lengthy overhaul begun July 26. The issue was found October 15.

Cleveland rescue tale centers on Alphonso Woodall a 36 year old who swam from shore with two broken legs to reach Louis Fabri clinging to a capsized boat near Gordon Park Beach. Woodall tied a rope to the boat while onlookers pulled them to safety amid violent waves and foggy conditions.
