Steam engine No. 3 returns to rails after 50 years
After 14 years of work the Baldwin steam engine No. 3, built in 1920, resumes passenger service on the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway. The Oct. 3 debut drew hundreds as fall colors drew crowds, with Carlin Brown and granddaughter Ellegra traveling from Columbus to witness history and share the experience.

Gallipolis man held on 15000 bond for terroristic threat
Gallipolis resident Nickolaus D. Russell, 19, remains jailed on a 15000 bond after allegedly threatening to kill a cop on a Friday post. He was arrested at Ohio University dorm Boyd Hall and is charged with a third degree felony terroristic threat and a fifth degree felony LSD possession. A preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 26 in Athens County Municipal Court.

Heroin ring leader gets 14 years in prison
Megan Vore, 25, of Glouster, pleaded guilty to 26 counts in an Athens County case involving heroin and cocaine trafficking. Judge Lang sentenced her to 14 years with five years of community control and a six year underlying sentence. If she cooperates fully against co defendants, judicial release may occur after seven years.
