The Commerce Department reports the nations GNP rose at an annual 11.2 percent rate for the quarter ended Sept 30 the largest gain in two decades. The gain follows a 2.9 percent decline a year earlier and signals a strengthening economy with cautions about sustaining such growth.
Commerce reports GNP at 1 497.8 billion in the latest quarter, up 56.9 billion from the prior quarter. Inflation at 5 percent and a third straight quarterly slowdown accompany a 1.2 percent rise in personal income in September.
The Ohio Education Association with 83000 members faults Gov Rhodes four constitutional amendments and a fifth proposal to cut recreational land taxes as increasing state indebtedness beyond California and New York. In Cleveland the Catholic Diocese says demolishing St Edward St Agnes St Thomas and selling St Marian reflects costs and attendance, not retreat from black neighborhoods.
