The council Wednesday voted to join the National Students Council and planned to allocate tax stamp funds to the seniors general fund. Tentative party dates were set as Dec 16 for all grades, Jan 20 for eighth and ninth grades, and March 9 for seventh and eighth grades.
AHS announces senior play Room for One More by William Davidson directed by Mrs Sharleen Daving. Leading roles November 17 18 feature Ann Anderson Jeni Davis John Nunemaker and Larry Snyder with Daire Carmichael Betty Andrews Annette Kirchner Dave Merrick Marilyn Nida Ed Patusk Kay Woogerd Ben Vamty and student director Pat Beckert.
State Highway Patrol reported minor accidents on Route 56 west of Athens and near Athens. Brooks 24 of Route 2 collided with Ro mine 61 of Route 1 after moving from the berm. Wreck reported around 3 20. Another accident involved Reed 31 of Philpps West Virginia when a rock struck the glass of a vehicle driven east of Athens on Route 30 three and a half miles.
Two brothers ages 14 and 15 escaped from the County Home near Chauncey and rode to Athens. Police nabbed them in a car on South Bridge while attempting to flee. They admitted stealing a car from an Athens woman and also taking vehicles in Ohio and Kentucky after their escape.
A 46 000 pound bulldozer operator was fined 185 plus costs in Municipal Court for crashing through a wooden bridge in Lodi Township on Tuesday. The judge suspended 85 of the fine. Donahue of Harlestonville, an employee of Swisher Coal Co, faced charges for driving the bulldozer to a strip mine site. Foreman Dreser of Hipolis was charged with failing to obtain a permit to transport heavy equipment, but that charge was dismissed.
Local representatives from Athens and nearby area attended the Ohio Consumer Loan Teachers convention at Wright-Patterson near Day, October 25 to 27. The Ohio Section of the American Physical Society hosted the gathering led by L Dowling, with 700 licensed merchants expected to join the session.
Norman K. Gutry of the Ohio Mental Health Association led a meeting supporting capital improvements bond issue for mental health programs. Attendees included Dr. Allan A. Baldwin and many local residents and officials.
Charlotte Smith of Cincinnati has joined the Ohio Department of Health southeast staff to assist public health nurses in nutrition matters and review food service in children's homes. She will survey area school food habits through local health departments and has trained at University of Cincinnati, Western Reserve, and Cornell.
