Two hundred tons of steel girders have arrived in Athens for the Ohio University Library construction. Superintendent R F Buckey says workers, who arrived Sunday, will begin erecting the steel Tuesday morning with a crew up to 39 men.
Creditors of Mat and Daughtery and of the defunct Wa State Bank of Washington will meet here October 28. George Bitzer, federal referee in bankruptcy, announced the schedule today.

He was born in Athens son of John Bennett and Harriett Silvus Paul and was a bricklayer by trade. He married Sophia McKee in 1865 and left two daughters Emma Retta and Mary Elma Harvey. Mary Elma Harvey survives with two sisters and four brothers the family noting long ties to Athens County Missouri relatives also mentioned.
A Federal communique from Rio de Janeiro reports victory over Rebel forces at Cambuquira Minas Geraes with several insurgent casualties and no Federal losses. Rebels claimed to have Fed troops bottled up on the island and threatened gas bombardment. Federal naval support noted ten warships arriving at Fiorianopolis and forces under Gen Nepomuceno Da Costa concentrate at Vitoriano polis for a southern Brazil assault. Rebels warned ships of mined Santa Catharina Canal via wireless.
An anonymous writer threatens to exterminate city leaders including City Manager Charles A. Harrell and Municipal Judge William R. Sprague, urging them to leave Portsmouth. A policewoman, Mrs. Mabel Fenchel, also receives notices. Detective Charlies Clowe is warned not to investigate. Motive undetermined as authorities search for the writer. Harrell arrived from Cincinnati. Fenchel recently arrived from Cleveland.
Funeral services were held in Columbus for Mrs Ethel Cather Zimmerman who died in an automobile accident near Manefield on Friday night. She was born in Athens County daughter of the late Quincy Cather and Mary Pierce Cather. She leaves two sons aged 12 and nine.
Three men were killed and 80 injured when a mine elevator plummeted at the Sonman Shaft Mine near Johnstown. Rescue teams faced delays as they could not reach the shaft bottom.
Captain R. G. Morton and five boats from Marblehead Coast Guard Station raced to the west side of West Sister Island in Lake Erie to free the 75 foot patrol craft C. G. 229 aground since Friday night. Eight crew members were reported safe with the lightkeeper at West Sister Island.
In Burbank California on October 24 the death of W. Cushman a Mexico mining official was tied to a freakish accident as a pilot could not see a lower plane while gliding to a landing at United Airport.
Ohio University fan and Athens County treasurer W. bb. Moler spotted smoke from a crack in the League Park grandstand during the Bobcat Western Reserve football game. He used his cane to extinguish the blaze until a bucket brigade arrived, earning cheers from the crowd.
William Webb of Jerseyville faces a preliminary hearing Wednesday before Magits Porter for allegedly furnishing liquor to six high school pupils. The statute prescribes a fine of 300 to 5000 dollars or three to five years in prison. Also due Wednesday are five men and a woman charged with disturbing a religious meeting at Lubbing: Mildred Van Dyke Kenneth McBride Kenneth Hawk Ralph Stone Everett Wilson Henry Parks. Ross Hogue paid a 100 dollar fine for liquor possession. Sid Russell paid 20 dollars for intoxication. William Hill was held to the grand jury on an assault in a menacing manner with 200 dollar bond.

The first meeting is 2 30 pm Wednesday in room 206 at the high school as part of the character training program and parental responsibility.
Kisie Janis former stage star and screenwriter left with her arm in a sling after an attempted wrestling lesson with film star Janion Navarro at Janis home ended with a ridiculous miscue. The pair were clowning around when the injury occurred.

Norman Brown confessed to shooting and killing Mrs. Anna Haas after she refused to sell him liquor. He led police to a concealed attic stash where he siphoned moonshine, found a gun, and after a struggle a fatal shot hit Mrs. Haas in the chest.
In Elyria Ohio an improvised anti burglary shotgun at Matt Gardner's gas station wounded Clarence Edwards 19 of Peoria UL. His companion Robert Lyman 22 who drove him to hospital was arrested. The weapon fired when the window was opened marking its second victim after prior robberies.
Under the state election law, Athens County residents unable to reach polling places on election day may vote by mail. Special ballots are issued on application between 15 days before and three days before the election. Applications must be in by November 1 to the county board of elections. Ballots require a physician certificate and two witness signatures.

Miss Margaret Woodward a 23 year old nurse at Cincinnati's Children's Hospital was fatally shot in Franklin Ohio during a house party by her fiancé Christian Mentz 22. The shot was fired at a target and she stepped into the bullet's path. Her mother Mrs Sarah Woodward witnessed the death and Mentz was overwhelmed with grief as police exonerated him.
In Columbus on October 20 three groups opposed to the Prohibition amendment unite to protest Anti-Saloon League political meddling in churches. The Crusaders, Association Against the Prohibition Amendment, and the Women’s Organisation for Prohibition Reform urge pastors to keep sermons free of politics on November 2 Christian Citizenship Sunday. They cite an Anti-Saloon League letter attacking Dwight Morrow and Robert Bulkley and urging votes for Roscoe McCulloch to uphold prohibition.
