Parker Carpenter a longtime Athens township farmer and public servant died October 1 1887 after a long illness. Born November 4 1838 in Rome township he served as Athens township Assessor Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff and later Township Trustee. He married Elizabeth Knowles in 1855 and Jane Cook in 1876. survived by four children and a wife. Known for honesty sincerity unselfishness and faith he faced death with calm.
