Racine Site Chosen For Electric Plant

Ohio Power Co. plans a 54 million dollar hydroelectric plant at Racine Dam on the Ohio River. The two unit 48 000 kw installation will begin with a cofferdam this year and powerhouse construction in spring with first power in summer 1979. The facility aims to produce 235 million kWh annually for over 25 000 homes with no natural resource use and minimal environmental impact.

Nelsonville York district faces imminent closure and deficit

State Auditor Thomas Ferguson’s office reports Nelsonville York City School district should have closed nine days ago. projected deficit stands at 248,176 dollars as of December 31 with 1,980 students. Superintendent Hillyer says classes continue until a closing date is set, staff will include four positions totaling 217 dollars per day. Commando Raid Free Hosts Aboard Hijacked Lufthansa Jet

In Mogadishu seven minutes of action freed 86 hostages from a hijacked Lufthansa Boeing 737. German commandos stormed the plane as terrorists rushed the cockpit, killing two and wounding two others. Hostages evacuated via emergency exits while a field hospital treated them.
