Area Soil Conservation Office Opens in Athens
The Athens based Soil Conservation Service Office began full operations headed by Clarence W. Mc Knight as administrator for a 14 county area. The staff includes engineers and soil scientists. the office will survey soils map farm plans and supervise the Margaret Creek Watershed Project.

Halloween Parade Plans Are Formed
Athens Kiwanis announced the annual Halloween parade set for Saturday evening Oct. 30. Costume judging covers four school groups with three prizes each for ugliest prettiest and most original costumes. The route starts in front of the General Telephone Co. and proceeds to the high school stadium led by the Athens High School Band. Ohio University gymnastics team will provide entertainment.

Rolling Hills Baptist Chapel Buys Route 50W Site
The Rolling Hills Baptist Chapel purchased 3.25 acres on Route 50W near Radford and Albany, paying $4500 to Clyde and Mrs Whitlatch. The First Baptist Church of Athens sponsors the land purchase. The congregation held initial services in June 1964 and meets temporarily at Athens County Livestock Sales offices. Rev. Robert H. De Witt Jr. joined as pastor in January 1965.

Architects from eight states gather for a regional conference of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture in Athens October 21 to 23. Ohio University School of Architecture and the Ohio Valley Chapter sponsor the event. About 60 professors from 20 universities attend at the Ohio University Inn, with representatives including Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Virginia, Tennessee, Michigan, Kentucky and Illinois.
