Washington Oct. 19 The Works Administration moved 375000 dollars from an original 435000 allotment for open channels on the Ohio River to a dam construction project at Gallipolis. the transfer was approved by the Army Engineers at the river and harbor office.

Pittsburgh October 10. Andrew W Mellon rejects Governor Pinchot's charges that Senatorial nominee Joseph F Guffey borrowed funds from Mellon. Mellon says he underwrote 75000 of a 150000 guaranty in 1931 for Guffey amid alien property accounts and was never asked to repay as liquidation later covered the amount. Pinchot had accused Guffey of federal embezzlement tied to a 406001.36 loan from Mellon and other Pittsburghers.
Preliminary surveys on proposed dam sites in Athens County have been made during the past week by J D Garrett county FERA enzi neer. The dams will be constructed to raise the water level and provide storage for stock in streams with little water, using local material timber rock and earth under orders from headquarters.

Washington October 19 Harry L Hopkins relief administrator announced twelve rural industrial communities to be built immediately with relief funds in various regions housing from 1 to 700 families each. Plans exist for about fifty more projects though funds are not yet available. He said the first twelve will be self sustaining and housing will be very cheap. He cited Red House West Virginia where 150 small houses now under construction cost 1600 dollars with ten acre plots.
