Editor Cappeller of the Mansfield News urges the next Ohio legislature to tax oil gas coal and mineral leaseholds. He argues current rates load tax burdens on farmers and homeowners, wasting value held by leaseholders. A dollar per acre tax would boost revenue and spur development statewide.
The Athens County Treasurer's Office informs taxpayers that the attached table shows the correct tax levy rate per dollar of valuation for state government support, public debt, common schools, county expenses, poor relief, bridge construction, town maintenance, and other statutory purposes as required by state law. The notice emphasizes the levy applies to the county duplicate for the specified funding needs.

Jerome Beckler died at the Palmer House Saturday morning after a period of poor health. He had lived in Carbondale and Athens in recent years, was a widower, and is survived by his mother Mrs. P. J. Beckler and others. Funeral held at Marshfield at 10 o’clock with grave-side prayers by Dr. T. L. Lowe. relatives from Athens attended.
