Theft reduces water service at Torch Park in Athens County
Athens County officials shut off water at Torch Park after hydrant thefts and suspected siphoning by one or more individuals with a truck and large tank. The issue, discussed at a Tuesday commissioners meeting, coincides with end of baseball and softball seasons and follows past vandalism including a frost-proof hydrant and wiring theft. The panel called for sheriff involvement and possible cameras, while noting community ownership could help deter thefts at the park.
