Two Men Die Buried Under Concrete at Union Depot Site
In Cleveland on October 17 two Spencer White Company workers, Patrick Toolis and Patrick Cleary, were buried alive under 50 tons of fresh concrete in a 105 foot hole at the Union Terminal project. Rescue teams fought 11 hours to reach them, but both men died as the concrete hardened. Police and company officials opened investigations into the accident. Cleary’s body stood upright, his hand near a ring-bolt on a hoist.
