Mt Vernon mob hangs four after assault in repute house

Seven colored residents of Mt Vernon Ind entered a disrepute house under liquor, four were dragged from jail by citizens and hanged on trees until the entire day. Three others remain at large. The deputy sheriff was killed by a father of one arrestee, who then vanished from jail. a later report says one hanged man was innocent of the charged crime. The event stirs strong condemnation of mob violence.

Connecticut election rent returns show party town gains

Rent returns from the municipal election in Connecticut last week show eighty towns Republican fifty five Democratic and thirty evenly divided. Last year seventy were Republican sixty nine Democratic and twenty six divided. Net Republican gain ten towns Democratic loss fourteen towns.
