Agent Advises Early Storage Of Soft Corn in Farm Silos
County extension agent Ross Wright warns that soft corn should be stored quickly after frost to prevent spoilage. State tests show corn with over 30 percent moisture spoils in storage. drying can occur on stalk or in shock, so husking should be delayed and corn spread thinly. Crib ventilation helps. feed should be ground in small, daily quantities. Soft corn can be fed to pigs and cattle though poultry use is challenging. Additional details available in a Department of Agriculture bulletin at the County Extension Office.
