Home Grown Feeds For Raising Poultry
Ohio poultrymen face flock declines from high feed costs and low egg prices. A state poultry specialist advises home grown feeds when possible. A 24 percent mash blends corn, middlings, soybean meal, bran, alfalfa leaf meal, dried milk or whey, limestone, oyster shell, and salt. If whey is used, replace corn with extra soybean meal. Add vitamin D when housed and practice constant culling to maintain production.
