Walter W. Jenkins longtime White House aide to President Johnson was arrested on morals charges in 1959 and again last week, prompting his resignation announced in New York. Police records show earlier disorderly conduct charges with fines posted. The case stirs campaign politics as Goldwater and Johnson offer terse comments while the president readies a nationwide TV address on CBS.
The 1964 Nobel Prize for Medicine was shared by American Konrad Bloch and German Feodor Lynen for discoveries on cholesterol and fatty acid metabolism. Bloch, 52, naturalized in 1944, lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with Harvard affiliation. Lynen, 53, born in Munich, is director of the Max Planck Biochemical Institute and has five children.

The 19 year old housewife Caro lyn Beller was found dead Wednesday night behind her bed in an alley house at 331 Beerman Street. Her hands and feet were bound and she was fully clothed. Coroner to determine cause of death. Police seek her husband James, 23, for questioning.
Early today a blaze on Shawnee Main Street leveled a two story frame building and a two story brick structure used as business and residence. The brick Red Men’s Hall, three stories, was heavily damaged. both burned structures were owned by Charles Griffith. Firefighters from Shawnee New Straitsville and Corning battled the flames under Town Marshal Robert Musick, prevented spread, no wind aided the fire, damage estimates unavailable and cause undetermined.
Common Pleas Judge Joan Bolin granted Darrell Napoleon Fierce a request to move his first degree murder trial to a three judge panel. Fierce waived jury trial and will be presided by Judge Bolin with trial set for 9 a.m. Oct. 29. 75 venire names need not report. The indictment cites a February 1963 tavern murder in Buchtel.
In Karlsruhe a University Heights mother Marie Peterson says the body is her 22 year old daughter Ann Marie who had been missing in Europe since August. Police report no clues about the killer and give no motive.
George Reedy announced Jenkins resignation and Moyers appointment at a Waldorf Astoria news conference. Jenkins, hospitalized for extreme fatigue, faced past arrests for disorderly conduct at the YMCA with charges of indecent gestures and perversion.
FBI declined to comment on whether Jenkins 1959 arrest was noted in security checks of White House personnel. In New York a White House aide avoided confirming if Jenkins attended NSC meetings. Jenkins, an administrative assistant to Johnson, joined the White House staff late last year after Kennedy's assassination.
