J Nye recalls Chauncey as a salt industry hub from 1839 founded with Chauncey and salt works dating to 1820. Dover Township formed 1811 with settlers like Daniel Weethee and George Nye. By 1882 Chauncey gained a railroad and a population of about 200, with stores Hocking Coal and Salt Co and Edwards general store.

Nelsonville is near completion of the E M Poston Station Hamley Run with Unit 1 slated to begin operation within two weeks. The plant will boost Southern Ohio Electric capacity by 40 000 kw and add more units by 1951 with a total $35 million investment and about 500 local jobs.
