Sunday and next week bring revivals, reorganized Sunday School divisions, and mission emphasis at Central Ave M E. The Good Shepherd's Sunday School splits its morning sessions. Church of God revival meetings draw strong interest. First M E plans Halloween events for youth.
Central Ave M E Church plans Missionary Sunday with a 9:15 a m united Sunday School session led by Elmer Spencer and 9:20 to 9:45 classes. Rev Stanley Jeffery will speak on Missionary Motives. Youth leagues meet in the evening followed by a 7:30 p m service on Modern Fools.
Robert M. Zimmerman, noted deep sea diver and former Olympic swimmer, speaks at First Christian Church tonight on Up from the Bottom of the Sea. The talk includes stage displays of deep sea curios and follows the Collins Festival Series alongside the Bessie Andrus Artists event on October 21.
A Methodist church calendar lists sermons by Dr. William Grant Seaman on God and Destiny and Conferences With Christ at Athens First Church. Senior High Epworth League meets with speaker Paul Hudson. Halloween parties for junior groups are set for Monday and Tuesday evenings at 7 and 7 30 in the church. The Wesley Players present The Eternal Hills at Scio during the centennial celebration. Open House for students is Fridays at 7 30 after Open House activities.
Christian Science Sunday lesson in Athens will discuss the Doctrine of Atonement with the golden text from First Thessalonians and supporting passages from I Peter and Mary Baker Eddy’s Science and Health. The citations emphasize salvation through Jesus Christ and enduring trials as part of Christian growth.
A Rally Day service and program is planned at Buchtel Methodist Church Sunday night at 7 30. Elsie Bookman Mrs. Pierce and Miss Don Ally will lead the children and youth in a program open to the public. An offering for Bible School work will be taken. Sunday School officers will be elected next year and the pastor will deliver a Rally Day sermon. Preaching at Haydenville Church 9 30 a m and Murray City 6 45 p m last Sunday drew large crowds.
Rev. Beryl Burr will lead the 7:30 p m preaching at Richland Ave M P Church in Rev. Ray Huff's absence. He will speak on The Question of Life. Cradle Roll Day is set for the Sunday School. Morning prayer is at 10:30. Christian Endeavor at 6:30 p m. Mid week prayer Wednesday at 7:30 p m.
J P Miller pastor announces Sunday services for Bradbury Bradford and Dexter Circuit. Sunday School at 9 30 at all three churches. Clarence Might superintendent Bradford Bible School target 150. Salvation Army officer Lee Gaugh will hold revival meetings October 18 to 30 at 92 W. Union St. He will preach on repentance faith baptism the holy spirit and eternal life. Known as the marathon evangelist he once preached 863 nights in one city and has held meetings in 27 states.
Haydenville South Haydenville Church of God observes Missionary Day with 9:30 a m Sunday School directed by John H Norris. A missionary program follows with children of other lands depicted and a 7:30 p m missionary sermon by Pastor Mary Wahl. Young People meet at 6:45 p m and plan Stewardship Day and a Bible contest. Prayer meeting is Wednesday evening.
The Independent Holiness Church of Nelsonville hosts an old time revival from November 6 to November 20 featuring Rev. William Duncan of Ashland Kentucky. Albert Selbee announces services with Sunday School at 9 30 a m worship at 10 45 a m and 7 p m Class Meeting at 2 30 p m and weekly prayer meetings Tuesday Thursday at 7 p m Men's prayer meeting Friday at 7 30 p m.
Rev Brown at Mt Zion Baptist Church Carpenter and Congress Sts outlines three characteristics as the morning sermon. Sunday School starts 9 30. BYPU meets 6 30 p m. Evening service at 7 45 features Waiting on God as the topic.
Mayor Harold H. Burton of Cleveland will deliver the Sunday evening sermon at 7 30 at the First Christian Church in the absence of Rev. Neil Crawford who attends the International Convention in Denver. Dr H T Houf presides and Dr H T Phillips introduces the speaker. The Sunday School at the Church of the Good Shepherd will meet in two sections this year. The 10:30 session, led by Eleanor Gifford, serves parents who bring younger children to church. The 9:30 session is directed by Rev. Robert G. Purrington. Services on Oct 16 include Holy Communion at 8 am, Church School at 9:30, and Morning Prayer with a 10:30 service. On Oct 23 Rev. Smythe H. Lindsay, diocese publicity director and editor of the Episcopal Church Evangelist, preaches at the 10:30 service.
