Officials at Smith College investigated a campus political riot following a street parade. About 400 students, many from wealthy families, clashed between Republican and Democratic factions on campus. Two women were injured and Roosevelt photos torn as the melee erupted.
Cleveland officials and firefighters attributed the explosion at Municipal Stadium to defective wiring igniting accumulated gas in a storage room. Four men were injured as the blast wrecked over 2,000 seats and hurled concrete blocks 40 feet into the air.
