IQ Tests on Trial in San Francisco Case
A 1971 class action challenges IQ tests as culturally biased against Black children placed in educable mentally retarded classes. Judge Peckham halted such placements pending trial as NAACP and Public Advocates press the suit against state and city school authorities. Experts note no culture-free tests exist and argue IQ reflects classroom language, not Black culture.
