An effort to place a wet-dry ballot issue failed in Athens County while about 6,000 to 8,000 Ohio University students registered to vote in Athens, pushing totals to over 25,000. Registrations surged at the court house and branch offices, with Church of the Good Shepherd registering 800 plus voters in six days.
