Voters weigh Athens and Alexander school tax measures this November
Voters in the Athens City School District and Alexander Local School District face tax questions this November with early voting starting Wednesday. Athens seeks to replace an emergency levy with a continuing one generating about 3.8 million dollars annually and no new revenue. The district relies on 32 percent state funding per pupil and 68 percent from property taxes, with enrollment declines pressuring budgets and possibly staff reductions. If approved, the levy would cost approximately per dollar received by the district.
