Ohio River Electric Railway seeks franchise discussion
An adjourned evening meeting considered a new franchise for the Ohio River Electric Railway. Harry Hartwell, the company’s general agent, presented a plan that mirrored earlier proposals and was largely rejected previously. The fare and zone details would rest with the State Public Utilities Commission in Columbus if a Middleport council franchise included the same clause. The council debated for hours, adjourned to Friday, and tentatively agreed to await PUC input on fare and zone while seeking a franchise from Middleport. The term sought ranged from fifteen to twenty years, with power to use steam debated near Kerrs Run.
