Consumers' Board announces nationwide effort to guard against price gouging with city and county councils, district committees, and an NRA code debate. A national board will support county councils and local boards will handle complaints while feeding findings to Washington to deter profiteering.
Oct 10. A 52 year old watchman at the Storage Battery Company plant in Cleveland was shot to death in the rear box car during an attempted theft. Police investigated after a revolver discharged three times was found near the scene.
The Grove Public School will close due to a $10,000 debt and ongoing budget shortfalls. Dr J C ident of the school board says about 900 pupils are affected. a three mill levy is proposed to reopen the school.

Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Buxton aged 72 who died at her sister in law’s home 32 Congress Street will be held at 2 pm Thursday at First Methodist Church with burial in Hebbardsville Cemetery. She was born in Waterloo Township daughter of Henry and wife and lived in Lee Township post marriage to Warren Buxton. Her husband died in 1917. Survived by brothers Moses Lightfritz Manchester and John Lightfritz Columbus and sister Phosa Six Carbondale.

SPRINGVILLE Oct. 10. William Hale 52 was arrested after threats and a blackmail scheme against Mildred Gerard who had aided a drowning boy. Hale fired at her and faces grand jury charges as police note his mind was twisted by his dead son Chester 10. Mrs Gerard and her companions tried to rescue the Hale boy and were attacked.
