President Ford suffers another veto override as Congress passes a 2.75 billion nutrition bill over his objections. This marks the seventh time in 14 months Congress has overridden a Ford veto, with Republicans crossing party lines to back the measure.
President Ford urged a sweeping tax cut tied to spending curbs and rejected a governor's request for more federal funds. He met Appalachian state governors in Knoxville, Tenn., underscored deficits up to 70 billion, and faced criticism from Congress over corporate taxes and the plan's feasibility.
Congress moves to approve sending American monitors to watch the Sinai truce with Israel and Egypt while adding clauses limiting U S military involvement. The measure requires withdrawal if new hostilities arise and clarifies that congressional approval does not bind other executive agreements.

Lynette Fromme pressed Tuesday to replace U S Public Defender E Richard Walker with his assistant Robert Holley in the case accusing her of attempting to kill President Ford. Walker had been appointed cocounsel by Judge Thomas MacBride. Fromme remains allowed to act as her own attorney.
In Beirut clashes between Christian and Moslem factions broke a cease-fire. Mortars and automatic weapons triggered heavy casualties across northern eastern and southern suburbs. State radio urged security forces to stop the massacre as businesses shut down behind steel shutters.
