Medina County officials confirm a 6 year old Brunswick first grader died in Cleveland’s Lutheran Hospital from spinal meningitis. The case prompted a bus and classroom warning to 210 students and requests for sulfa medicine from Brunswick doctors and drugstores.
Senate Democratic leader Mike Mansfield said President Kennedy may seek opinion and committee or farm group support before approving large wheat sales to the Soviet bloc. He noted no firm offer has been made and the decision is both economic and political.
Joseph Valachi resumed testimony as U S marshals increased protection amid anonymous tips of a bomb planned for the hearing room. FBI received several calls warning of a bomb and possible shooter among spectators in New York and Washington.
Albert James Smith 58 of Nelsonville Route 1 was found guilty of injuring a person while hunting after the Saturday death of Lee Roy Carsey 19 of Shade Route 1. Smith fined 300 dollars plus costs with suspended 60 day jail term and five year hunting license ban. Carsey died at Burr Oak Lake after being shot while carving initials in a tree. Funeral services for Carsey were held Tuesday. Eight youths in Montreal were sentenced to prison for antigovernment bombings after pleading guilty.
A group of American explorers, missing for more than a week, arrived in Chihuahua Mexico surprised a search had been launched. The party including two women was last heard from near Creel after a Rio Unique float plan covering 120 miles started September 25. They reached Creel after four days and eight miles due to low water and rapids. James D. Dean of Salt Lake City greeted them at the station. Two members stayed at Las Mochis during vacation.
In Ross County the auditor’s office questions Gov Rhodes austerity moves after a $75,000 welfare department check arrived in an unsealed third class mail envelope.

U S aid programs for South Viet Nam face scrutiny to ensure funds support anti Communist war efforts and Diem government reform. No programs have been canceled though some import licenses are stalled awaiting Washington action or congressional on foreign aid. McNamara and Taylor brief the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on their Saigon mission.
The Marietta Manufacturing Co. refused a three point union plan amid a two week walkout by 600 production workers over the hiring of a time study man. The proposal asks union involvement, non disciplinary use of the study, and arbitration. Federal mediator Howard Steele was to meet officials this afternoon.
Circleville authorities hold three men in Pickaway and Fairfield counties for questioning in the shooting of George Justus, 72, owner of Justus Store on U.S. 22. Justus, shot in the chest, is in University Hospital Columbus in poor condition. Justus’ daughter Leah Jean reported suspects entered the store, asked for a pop, then opened fire.
The FBI opened an inquiry into the business affairs of Robert G. Baker 36 who resigned as secretary to the Senate Democratic majority. The probe ties to a $300000 civil suit alleging he used office to win contracts for a defense subcontractor linked to his finances. Baker and his wife both held government payroll roles.
Ralph Hobbie Ross, 64, Dorcas, pleaded innocent to first degree murder in the Aug 21 shotgun slaying of his wife Charlotte Fulmer Ross, 37. Judge John C. Bacon ordered no bail and asked for a written bill of particulars from attorney J B O'Brien.
Ohio's Little Hoover Commission urges consolidating the Insurance Department and Public Utilities Commission under the State Department of Commerce. It also proposes placing licensing boards and private employment agencies under Commerce to unify regulation and improve administration.

Ironton judge Warren S. Earhart announces candidacy for a seat on the Fourth District Court of Appeals. He has served ten years as Lawrence County Common Pleas judge. Meanwhile Judge James Collier will not seek re election after his term ends in 1965.
