Farm defense plan details outlined for 21 Ohio counties
One hundred seventy five farm reps from 21 Southeastern Ohio counties gathered at Athens Country Club to hear the new farm defense program outlined by Secretary Wickard. Dr. Virgil Wertz of Ohio State University cited prices 42 percent higher than a year ago, comparable to 1910 14 levels, driven by stronger demand and government purchases for armed forces and Allies. David Herrman of the Soil Conservation Service led in Kruse’s absence, noting three goals: adequate U.S. food, defense support, and preventing price manipulation.
