In Pomeroy New York, Byron Atherton a 65 year old farmer near Alfred in Orange Township was found hanging from a barn beam by his wife Tuesday morning. He had been ill and feared a stroke, had left a field earlier and apparently hanged himself from a hay loft rope. He left a will naming his wife as beneficiary of the farm stock and money. the Fish farm had come to the family ten years earlier from Virginia. He left several children and funeral plans were not set.
Five bandits held up the Ceska-Kalifornia Building and Loan Company directors meeting in Chicago. They used sawed off guns and a sub machine gun to escape with 4715 dollars as a policeman on guard was relieved just as the meeting ended.
The October Grand Jury met at the Athens County Court House for its second session. Fifteen cases were to be considered with 82 witnesses subpoenaed. Cases include assault and battery manufacturing liquor intoxication forgery manslaughter OUI aiding escape reckless driving possession malicious destruction and petit larceny.

In Chauncey today a fog bound collision between two freight trains injured one man and damaged two locomotives. Conductor Ben Souders and Henry R. Schottelkorf led the work train. Engineer Cocha suffered broken ribs. Both trains were moving slowly on the New York Central line from Columbus to Charleston.
