The Associated Press notes Ohio highways claimed 25 lives over the weekend including five double-death accidents. Four pedestrians were killed, two by hit-and-run drivers, with eight victims being youths. Eighteen deaths occurred Saturday. Gordon Bailey, 49, of Coolville Route 2 died in a two-car crash on Route 7 south of Coolville.
Owens-Illinois conducted a glass street paving test in Toledo to evaluate using crushed waste glass as a substitute for sand and stone in asphalt mix. The project aims to cut costs by reusing discarded glass rather than paying for disposal and purchasing traditional paving materials.
The FDA, almost a year after scientists warned of a health hazard, is showing concern about cyclamate an artificial sweetener used by about 175 million Americans. Cyclamate has been linked to severe birth defects in chickens and is found in products from bacon to children's vitamins to diet soft drinks and diet foods.
