Speculation says the Soviet manned launch could occur soon, while the United States remains at least a year away.
America's newest 500 pound satellite Courier 1B orbits every 115 minutes at 575 to 750 miles and relays a tele type message from President Eisenhower to the United Nations. It is designed to receive and store teletypewriter messages and unload them on command as the Army tests a rapid military information network.
