Proposed Athens Teen Center Plans Hang In Balance
City Councilman Norman Dean warned that the Athens Teen Center project may be dropped if a group agrees to direct activities within about 30 days. Six thousand dollars in contributions held for converting the former State Highway Garage on Hudson Ave into a center would be refunded. The garage was leased to the city in 1961 with an option to buy and a two year term. Despite interest from individuals and organizations, no one has taken on the leadership role. The deteriorating garage and broken windows underscore the stalled effort.
