Mrs. J. N. Felton will speak on Friends Around the World at the Home Demonstration Club Achievement Day October 7 at 1 30 p m at the Athens Grange Hall. An organizational meeting elected Mrs. Donald Wolfe as president and monthly meetings are set for the Grange Hall, 1 30 p m on the last Thursday. Public invited to attend.
Local clubs and churches schedule a week of gatherings from Oct 4 to Oct 6. Notable items include Patriarchs Miltaest at IOOF hall with a basket dinner, Descendants of Wolfe reunion at Cord Church, and Athens Shrine potluck supper. Other events cover study circles, installations, and bake sales across Athens, Amesville, Sayre, and Rome with speakers, singing, and meals.
The Third Annual Athens County Achievement Day is set for October 7 at 1 30 pm at the Athens Grange Hall The event theme Friends Around the World features international relations The program includes home demonstration work and 4 H exhibits with tea to follow in Athens County.
A wiener roast at Becky Laughlin’s home on September 26 marked the merger of Girl Scout troops 17 and 11, now Troop 17. Officers elected included Judy Hill chairwoman Alice Mills co chairwoman Sharon Downard secretary Lee Ann Rose treasurer Beverly Hoskins publicity chairman Marlinda Heft representative to Junior Planning Board Judy Hysell alternate. Members of Troop 17 are Lee Ann Rose Donna Shay Dorale ne Nickoson Barbara Corradini Beverly Corradini Sharon Downard Alice Mull Cordelia Peaster Nancy Hawkins Barbara Collett Judy Hall Anita Wallace Martinda Heft Becky Laughlin Beverly Hoskins and Judy Hysell. Sixty girls from three troops elected Senior Planning Board officers September 29: Martha Frum Troop 15 president Mary Williams Troop 12 vice president Carolyn Weber Troop 8 secretary. Names of Seniors who will assist Brownie troops and nursery school in churches were requested, along with a Senior Day report for Camp Rotan. Planning board meetings moved to the second and fourth Tuesday each month. A program to help new leaders was presented at Camp Rotan with Ozalid printing by Irene Elliott, singing and dancing led by Gertrude Linnenbruege, and a camp fire and refreshments. Attendees included many leaders. The National Girl Scout Convention will be in Cincinnati October 18-21, with National Girl Scout Week starting October 25.
The Septenary Community Music Club directed by Fay McGirr held its quarterly piano program at the Redbush home of Dale Masters Saturday evening with eighteen of thirty two students performing. Following the music, games and contests engaged attendees while a large refreshment committee served the menu.
The Athens Chapter Order of Eastern Star begins its year with a covered dish dinner. Mrs P S Wamsley presided at the business meeting. Other officers include George Snider vice president, Miss Mary Margaret Mechem secretary, and Mrs C L Dow treasurer. Sneakers and foam rubber scuffs can be washed in a washing machine.
