Belt Conveyor Plan Promised to Boost Ohio Freight
Noel R. Michell told Gallia County Rotary about a six foot wide belt conveyor from East Liverpool to the Great Lakes to move 29 million tons of coal north and 30 million tons of ore south. He argued it would cut costs, save millions, and create 2000 permanent jobs while expanding state tax intake by about seven and a half million dollars annually. The plan faces railroad opposition and would be a private enterprise with no government funding.
