Dulles Bars Blockade To Counter Red Acts

Secretary of State Dulles in Chicago outlined policy options short of war to counter Chinese Communist provocations. He barred any naval or air blockade of Red China and urged vigilance toward Russia while warning against provoking actions that would break international obligations. He noted the 13 Americans sentenced in Red China and described Moscow’s stance as a tricky word without renunciation of global communist effort. Ohio recount widens to ten counties in senate race

Columbus AP reports the senatorial recount expanding into ten counties with final two counties set to begin rechecking. Burke gains 448 votes from twelve counties and 959 precincts fully recounted. 1090 precincts total now tallied. Union and Chrysler avert massive UAW strike in Detroit

Chrysler Corp and CIO United Auto Workers union representatives reached a tentative agreement at 6 10 am to avert a strike at the Automotive Body Division plant. Riot by Insane Inmates Wrecks New Jersey State Hospital Dining Hall

A two hour riot at the New Jersey State Hospital in Trenton involved 23 inmates including Howard Unruh. Inmates damaged the dining hall, broke windows and started a fire injuring several attendants.
