Hymen's Altar Wedding in Athens Church Celebrated

At Hymen's altar Yno Shepard Grosvenor wedding in the Methodist Episcopal church Athens Monday evening marked a grand church ceremony. The bride walked with her father General Grosvenor as a large crowd of friends, family, and notable attendees filled the ornate venue. The bridal party wore elaborate gowns, the reception followed at the groom’s home, and guests from Columbus, Pomeroy, Cincinnati, Zanesville, and Washington D C attended the event.

Pallas Club Studies Emerson Education and Transcendentalism

Saturday afternoon the Pallas Club met with Mrs Hawna Brown to study Emerson life and writings. Members discussed his role as an educator and Unitarianism in New England while reviewing current events. A Cincinnati convention urged decorating public school rooms with Perry pictures. a committee was formed to implement the plan for December 2 at the ladies hall.

Death of Major Foster at Stillwater Minnesota

News of Major John Foster's death reached Athens with the date given as November 8 at his Stillwater home Minnesota. The Civil War veteran aged about 77, born in Athens November 182?, enlisted in Company 1 find O V T, served three years, discharged for illness. Survived by five sons Eben Wilson Charles W John J William A and daughter Mary Louise. Wife Mary Louise survived at home.

Whist Club Event at CH Welch Home on Main Street

Mr and Mrs CH Welch hosted a Saturday whist gathering at their elegant Main Street residence. Transport Mananense Survives Pacific Typhoon Escape

The transport Mananense with the Thirty first regiment on board sailed from San Francisco October 22 for Manila and endured a three day typhoon. Engines failed and water rose in holds as exhausted soldiers passed buckets to survive. Officers include Lieutenant F S Lowry Albert G Athens and William Gilmore of Nelsonville with Colonel Webb Hayes aboard. The ship, chartered by Perkins of San Francisco, reached Manila Tuesday.

Memorial Services for Garret A Hobart Held in Auditorium

Memorial services were held Saturday afternoon at the ab auditorium honoring Vice President Garret A Hobart. Rev G Walton King led prayer while Prof R O Higles and General C H Grosvenor delivered patriotic addresses. Presley praised Hobart as exemplary and instructive, with Grosvenor paying tribute to his life character and manhood. The program concluded with "America" sung by the audience.
