Forty four people including John W. Jacoby of Marion former head of the State Real Estate Licensing board were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of using mails to defraud in selling central Ohio cemetery lots. U S Attorney Calvin Crawford said the scheme took in around 3 000 000 between November 1933 and May 1938. Crawford called the practice a war upon cemetery promotions aimed at the elderly and infirm and named Robert Marshall of Marion as the mastermind.
