A 1930 Buick sedan owned by A. D. Gus Townsend was stolen from its parking space opposite the City Building on West Washington Street while Townsend attended a meeting. A similar car with West Virginia plates was seen through Pomeroy and a West Virginia licensed car was found on McKinley Avenue last night. Police believe the thief drove Townsend’s car to Athens, abandoned the WV car here, then continued in the Athens vehicle.
Oslo reports former U S secretary Frank B Kellogg co author of the Kellogg Briand Pact to outlaw war has been named Nobel Peace Prize winner for 1929 The award marks the United States third Nobel Prize this year with Sinclair Lewis winning the literature prize and Dr Karl Landsteiner of the Rockefeller Institute receiving the medicine prize.
Ohio farmers and livestock raisers will be well represented at the International Livestock Exposition at the Chicago Stock Yards from Saturday through December 6. Nineteen farm animal breeds totaling 458 head will be shown by Ohio stockmen to compete with exhibitors from across the country and Canada.

The Salvation Army directed a Thanksgiving meal at the Athenean Restaurant for sixty people including sixteen needy families and many children. Food was delivered to ill residents, and after the meal O Q Rowland spoke on Thanksgiving. Similar dinners were held at the Athens County Infirmary Children's Home Jail and State Hospital.
Van A. Bittner of the United Mine Workers writes to Secretary Davis urging a presidential proclamation to set a five day week and six hour day across industries. He cites long hours in coal, steel and textiles and says the measure could curb unemployment and relieve the nation.
Senator Caraway of Arkansas labels the Wickersham Commission a cold storage device designed by President Hoover to evade a clear prohibition stance. He tells United Press the President remains vague and undecided, hoping public opinion settles the issue before acting. He urges a decisive presidential declaration on prohibition.

Cleveland police were asked to locate Della Duncan who was reportedly kidnapped from her home by a man connected to drug use. Arthur Duncan said two neighbors reported a man demanding to see Mrs Duncan, who was later found hiding in a closet and was dragged away as she screamed. He believes she is held captive, with two brief phone messages since her disappearance.
Judge Thomas H H Darby leads a three year study by the Ohio State Bar Association on reforming the Criming and Penal Code. Proposals would allow judges to sentence felons to jail or workhouse for 10 days to nine months, with no double extensions, and avoid mandatory penitentiary terms for minimum one year felonies. The changes will be refined at the association’s mid winter meeting in Columbus in January.
Husted Germond his wife and two children were found stabbed to death at their Stanfordville residence. Police suspect the murders occurred Wednesday. a dairy employee reported the delivery was missed before discovery.
Nashville reports R. E. Donnell 63 president of the Liberty Bank and Trust Co was found dead in a hotel room with a shoe-string tied around his throat. Death ruled strangulation and police believe it was self inflicted.
Following a second invasion by county authorities on bootleg activities within the city limits, Sheriff Adam Stone declared he is ready to fight the rum trade in Youngstown Mahoning County. The announcement came after he raided an elaborate liquor plant. Stone had pledged to stay out of municipalities, enforcing the law in the county and leaving cities alone, unless local authorities asked for help.
Airport officials in Cleveland awaited word from William Griffin a Wings Inc pilot who has been unreported since taking off from Hamilton Ontario last Tuesday in a small cabin monoplane he built himself heading for Cleveland.
Jesse Smallridge and William Phillips were found guilty of breaking into J. L. Beckley and Son store in McArthur and stealing merchandise. A Vinton County Common Pleas Court jury returned the verdict Wednesday afternoon. sentencing by Judge J. W. Darby will follow soon.

Canton, Ohio resident James Cover, 40, was killed in an automobile accident near Mannington, West Virginia, while on the way to Thanksgiving dinner with his family. Their car veered off an embankment, plunging 75 feet.
