The pace of U S traffic deaths from Thanksgiving weekend shows signs of easing after a rise on Thursday. Ohio reports 16 deaths since the holiday began, with 13 before midnight Thursday, pushing the toll toward an estimated 25. Nationwide, 190 fatalities since 6 p m Wednesday, above typical daily rates. The count ends at midnight Sunday. Eight children lose parents in a Kenosha Wisconsin crash. The National Safety Council considers Thanksgiving largely a home holiday with little long distance driving. The AP compared a 102 hour period with the non holiday period, finding 566 deaths for the latter. Last year’s Thanksgiving toll was 554, highest since 1958.

Seven killed in Keokuk armory gas explosion
Officials say seeping gas ripped through the National Guard armory in Keokuk causing seven deaths and about 44 hospitalizations with 30 in critical condition.
