The week begins with a stock market shakeout that frightens few Wall Street traders. Many view the dip as a waiting period, not a surprise, while doubts linger on how far deflation and inflation will move and when a robust upturn might come.
Western Allies favor air supply to West Berlin rather than permitting a ground convoy through East Germany. They believe East Germany could disrupt rail and road routes by sabotage, but shooting down aircraft would risk a broader conflict. Allies plan to keep control of air safety and can sustain 10,000 troops if the four powers withdraw.
A father mother and five children fled their five room Redmond Ridge home at 6 am Wednesday after a fire apparently started in the attic. The bedroom with sleeping children collapsed before all were safe. Mr Harrison, a river boat captain, and his wife had recently remodeled the house. Damages not estimated.
JUNEAU Alaska a landslide victory for Democrats in the first Alaska elections saw major races decided as returns from 287 precincts showed Democrats leading across the board. Egan and Rivers won governor and U S House seats with Bartlett also taking a Senate seat as Gruening faced a strong GOP challenge.
In Cincinnati an officer said he would book a man scavenging from a garbage can on vagrancy charges so he could eat Thanksgiving. The homeless James Romanel 55 had $230 cash and a bank book showing $7900. police then changed the charge to removing waste from a container and noted he could post bond, but he refused to pay.
In Orange Massachusetts the English bulldog Fair Weather has a stormy life. He runs away from Ernest Johnson of Springfield and is found by Rev Decatur Butler who grows fond of the dog and the Butler children. The dog disappears again and is found by Mrs Robert Brown who calls Johnson to retrieve him. Johnson returns the dog to the Butler family to keep the dog happy.
Cincinnati union says Supreme Court ruling clears the way for a broad campaign to organize hotel workers. A union spokesman cites the decision forcing the National Labor Relations Board to handle hotel labor disputes as the key to their plans.
Dan T. Kep ler, 72, consulting engineer on major projects including the Alean Highway and the Oak Ridge atomic energy plant, died Tuesday in Peoria. He was born in Dorchester, Nebraska.

Cincinnati Municipal Court Judge Clarence Denning ordered Edythe Klumpp a 40 year old part time teacher held to the Hamilton County Grand Jury without bond on a murder charge. The body of Martha Bergen was found burned near Lake Cowan in Clinton County.
Judge Paul C. Weick took under advisement a $105 000 damage suit filed by Mr and Mrs Michael Simmons of Wilmington Delaware against Gibbs Manufacturing Co of Canton. They say a spring from a Gibbs mechanical top struck their son Paul five in the eye causing the eye removal by doctors.
Cush ing Oklahoma. Fisherman Bobby Joy Wilson age 22 was holding four fish hooks between his lips when a friend slapped his back. He gulped the hooks and doctors are considering the best method of removal.
Ohio farmers endorsed an Eisenhower backed proposal to end acreage allotments for corn. The referendum across 71 counties showed 14 396 in favor and 4 179 against, with 10 percent turnout of eligible voters. Area results varied by county, with several listing support for the new program.
Vice President Nixon and 12 Americans stand with Queen Elizabeth II as Britain dedicates a memorial chapel to 28 000 U S service members who died in World War II.
