Governor Lausche declares an emergency as Ohio cities black out and coal shortages trigger dimouts. Major cities including Cleveland Columbus Cincinnati and Dayton enforce restrictions while schools and industries cut power use and plan closures.
The House Surplus Property Committee questioned Interior Assistant Secretary C. Girard Davidson on using the Big and Little Inch lines for emergency natural gas transport to coal-short Eastern industries. Pipeline officials testified they could move 50 to 225 million cubic feet daily within weeks, aiding demand in Ohio and Western Pennsylvania, while not replacing coal loss.

Lois Morey seven was killed when a rifle discharged accidentally while she played with her 12 year old brother. The rifle belonged to Mr and Mrs Marlin Morey, her parents, who reported the tragedy.
