A Brief Sketch of Athens Methodist History
A long history of the Athens Methodist Society highlights early services without a church, construction of a brick church on Congress Street, and a 1827 revival. Notable figures include bishops Morris Ames McCabe Moore and Cranston, with long pastorate lists, changing salaries, and a 1837 church on the present site later expanded. The 1876 parsonage and fundraising efforts by Calvary Morris and C. L. Poston enabled a new church, managed by Rev. Stutz, though he did not live to see its completion.
