Washington cabinet members failed to agree on a fair wage rise for about 400,000 idle miners after a three hour session. Fuel Administration head Garfield prepared new figures while Secretary Wilson urged 31 percent, opposed by operators citing machine mining and living costs.
Three hundred members of the R. E. Bentley Post of the American Legion in Cincinnati raided Socialist party and IWW rooms, wrecking headquarters and burning and destroying large quantities of literature. The raid was orderly and concluded with the order for radical agitators to leave the city within two weeks.
Nearly seventy five businessmen from Athens and nearby centers attended a Monday evening informal smoker and lunch in the chamber of commerce rooms. Robert E. Ward and Arthur M. Crumerine presented on publicity and newspaper advertising arguing the value of local campaigns and the Ohio Select List.
Officials announced that Garfield and other cabinet members will not hold additional conferences with mine heads or operators during the recess.
A Ford car burned near Amesville Saturday night and was reported to belong to Charles Lucas of Amesville. Lucas reportedly was working on the carburetor with a lighted match when the fire started, leaving only charred remains.
Governor on November 25 named Stanley Merrill of Cincinnati to fill Maurice Dona hue on the Ohio supreme court bench. Merrill will resign as superior court judge in Cincinnati to take the higher post. Frank E. Wood will succeed Merrill as superior court judge.

The National Party completed its routine organizing work in Chicago on November 25 and expected to nominate a national ticket today. Amnesty for political and military prisoners was to be included in the platform. The meeting may adjourn today.

The postponement follows the stalled ratification and missing protocol. A French inventor claims a hammock can convert into an erect-seat chair.
Governor Henry J. Allen announced that if the Washington mine conference fails to reach an agreement by tomorrow he will call for volunteers to man strip mines in Southeastern Kansas. He asked federal troops be ready for emergency use though miners vowed not to work or interfere with the plan. Charles I. Martin, adjutant general, surveys housing needs near strip pits. A Japanese chemist has invented a process to extract nitrogen from air commercially without electricity.
New York Nov 26 A pitched battle erupted between Brooklyn Railroad inspectors and about twenty passengers refusing to pay the second fare at the end of the first zone. The riot aboard a reeled car left broken benches lights and splintered windows as passengers were dragged off. District Attorney Lewis planned to prosecute the company for disobeying the public service commission order against charging the second fare.
The United Mine Workers Journal reviews litigation around Judge Andersons injunction in the miners strike. Union lawyers argue war emergency laws ended with the war and 50000 miners returned home, decrying seizure of strike benefits without due process or hearing.
In Columbus Ohio police investigated the shooting death of Charles C. Allen a 63 year old wealthy colored real estate dealer found dead in his office with a dry cell battery on the floor near the body. Authorities consider robbery or revenge as possible motives and have detained Mack Anderson of Youngstown and Sam Salamony an Italian for questioning.
In Cleveland Ohio on November 25 detectives reveal a quadrangle love affair among Frank Klancher Joe Glavon and Louis Corno. The trio confronted each other at the woman's home and a knife fight followed with two wounded men later confessing the truth after initial robber attack denials. They were arrested on charges related to false statements to police.
Wil Ham Clyde and Frank Walton were fined 25.40 each after pleading guilty to disturbing religious services and assault at Bailey Run. Elmer Smart, injured in the scuffle when one man opened a church door, filed affidavits leading to Walton family payments totaling 76.20.
