The coal strike fate hinges on government action as operators and miners clash over wage demands. John L. Lewis cites a forty percent minimum while operators reject the miners plan and push for arbitration. Secretary Wilson notes progress though no agreement yet.
John Lewis of the United Mine Workers says miners will end the strike with a 31 percent wage rise, down from 40 percent. Operators demand government position on coal support and threaten to end negotiations if no agreement.
In East Liverpool on November 22 a car struck Mrs. John Armstrong 22 and her two year old daughter Catherine in front of their home. The coroner's inquest opened today to determine responsibility.
A joint conference of labor business and welfare officials in Toledo formed a municipal ownership league to affiliate with a national body. An immediate campaign to take over the street railway system was planned. W. F. Ries was elected president and Solon T. Klotz secretary.
Burlington freight crew forces a robber off a way car at Kir by Wyoming. The man, later identified as William L. Carlisle, was pursued by armed posses but not captured.
Miss Gladys Hick of Nelsonville and Fred Hayden of Cleveland were married at 10:30 at the E. parsonage with Rev. Dr. C Lee officiating. Witnesses were George Hayden of Nelsonville and others. The couple will reside in Cleveland where Hayden works at Chandler automobile works.
New York Nov. 22. Timothy Shea acting president of the Brotherhood of Firemen and Enginemen pacokins warned that anti strike legislation would provoke violent protest and civil government breakdown at the Academy of Political Science. He urged hurrying railroads back to private ownership and called the Plumb plan the real solution.
William Jansen Jr of Lathrop arrives in Athens with six coons and praises his game dog as the best night dog in the area, crediting the animal for the successful catch.
In Rockford Ohio a Farmers Savings Bank raid yielded an estimated 75000 to 100000 in bonds after robbers used an acetylene torch to breach vault doors and remove safe box locks. A second attempt at Grove City Savings Bank near Columbus failed when the robbers fled.
Washington reports 3,420,000 officers and men discharged from the army since the war end. The War Department also notes 143,466 enlistments since the armistice.

In Cleveland Ohio two men tried to steal a car at night and struck Joseph Ivanyek 35 with an iron bar as he attempted to prevent the theft. One suspect named Mike Sullivan was arrested after a policeman chased him near the assault site. The victim’s condition is critical and may die.
A two and a half year old boy missing since October 8 was found as a naked skeleton in dense brush near his Hammonton New Jersey home. Detectives suspect foul play by a degenerate. two strange men were linked to the case as searches spread eastward. The mother suffered a nervous breakdown.
In Cleveland Ohio two steel workers were shot near the Cuyahoga plant of American Steel and Wire Co after a strike incident. Witnesses said several men in autos fired on the victims and fled from the scene as guards at the mill gates were considered to prevent clashes.
James White was arrested in New York on November 22 for attempting to sell a barrel of whiskey for $800. Police say the container held two quarts of real liquor and the remainder rain water, exposing a deceptive mix.
Albert Johnson, a gentleman of color, was arrested for obstructing traffic after stopping his coal chariot in a crowded street to gamble in a crap game and gamble for coins. The incident occurred on a busy New York thoroughfare.
