Inflation accelerated in October with grocery prices rising sharply. The Labor Department reports a seven tenths of one percent overall increase, the third highest this year, following two tenths in August and five tenths in September.
Lynette Fromme's attorney challenged the fairness of her trial after a federal judge refused to declare a mistrial or drop the charge for attempting to kill President Ford. The judge said the claim of withheld eyewitness statements might be wrong.
Coast Guard Board of Inquiry hears testimony from a marine safety officer a former inspector and the chief of search and rescue as it probes the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald in Lake Superior about 50 miles northwest of Sault Ste. Marie Michigan on November 10. All 29 crew members perished.
Hearings continue as the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio examines a fuel adjustment rule. Electric executives, including William Bingham of Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co., warn the measure will raise bills, not lower them, as the rule aims to implement Rhodes era legislation.
Governor Rhodes announced a state patrol probe into patient abuse at state mental institutions. Director Donald D. Cook said investigations will be on an individual case basis. Page 7.

He cites inflation unemployment and big government while pledging to restore governance to the people. Early GOP reaction warns of party division and Democratic advantage. He heads to Florida New Hampshire North Carolina and Illinois for a two day campaign swing.
An ideologically divided Spain begins 30 days of national mourning after the death of Gen. Francisco Franco at 82. Prince Juan Carlos is named successor and will be crowned king, while in France refugees celebrate with horns in Hendaye. World leaders send condolences as Spain prepares state ceremonies and burial at Valley of the Fallen.
A Senate Intelligence Committee report urges crime penalties for plotting against foreign leaders and faces a White House push to withhold publication. Ford argued the release harms national interests. The 400 page document catalogs CIA involvement in plots against Castro Lumumba Diem Trujillo Schneider, with most targets killed.
