Farm Bureau Notes at Honey Fork Meeting

Farm Bureau council met at Harold Griffiths home with nine members and 11 children. Harold Griffith read A Light in the Window from Reader's Digest. Mrs. Jack Wyskiver led the session and discussed CROP contributions and farm surplus. Building a Stronger Farm Bureau was a key topic. December gathering set for the Wyskivers' home.

West elementary completes diphtheria and smallpox immunizations

Logans total of 120 pupils at West Elementary School received vaccines on Tuesday. Health department staff administered the basic series of triple vaccine to seven students and the basic series of double vaccine to one student. Booster doses were given to 33 and 69 pupils respectively. Seven pupils were vaccinated and three revaccinated for smallpox. First round immunization began at the junior high today with senior high planned for Friday.

C Wayne Snyder was named president of the Presbyterian Men after a dinner at First Presbyterian Church. Edwin C Johnston was chosen vice president and Richard Collison secretary treasurer. The group plans monthly meetings.

Hocking Garden Club Members Attend Regional Officers Clinic

Several Hocking Garden Club members attended a regional officers clinic at the Student Union on the Ohio University campus in Athens. Attendees included Josephine Lowrie and Mrs Hal Saunders among others. regional director Mrs Herman Humphrey presided and Mrs Walter Burton of Columbus was guest speaker and adviser to the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs.

A brief blaze at the Sportsman bar and grill at Main and Spring Sts caused minor damage. The fire started from a basement refrigeration compressor motor and smoke filled the tavern before firefighters cooled it with a booster-tank water supply.

Logan Heart Fund Bowling Winners Named

Winners in the Logan Heart Fund tournament at Thomas Recreation Lanes were Anita Holmes in the women’s division with 71 points and Richard N. Sayre and Elmer Barnes leading the men with 95 and 79 points. 53 men and 29 women participated and proceeds go to the Hocking County Heart Fund secretary Mrs. William Landers.

Judge Meyer Seeks Appeal Court Chair

Logan jurist Judge Harley Meyer announces candidacy for the Fourth District Court of Appeals in the May 1960 Republican primary. The vacancy comes as Judge Roy Gillen retires. Meyer, a native of Reedsburg Wisconsin, is a Columbus College of Law graduate and former city solicitor and prosecuting attorney.

Moderator of Presbytery Named in Logan Meeting

The Rev. James Van Dyke of Portsmouth was named moderator of the Scioto Presbytery at a Tuesday meeting in the First Presbyterian Church Logan. Elder James Lang of Manchester was chosen as vice moderator. Delegates heard a report that Logan, with Wellston and Nelsonville, is under consideration as a site for a Presbyterian home for the aged and infirm.

Explosion Claims Life of Blackston in Vian Trailer

Blackston, a native of Hocking County, was living in a trailer at Pine Club when an explosion occurred. He is survived by son Harold, daughter Helen Deible of Logan, four brothers, three sisters, and is to be buried per Leonard funeral home arrangements.
