The United States deploys four destroyers and an aircraft carrier to the Caribbean to deter Castro from subverting Guatemala and Nicaragua. President Eisenhower and Secretary Herter say the move marks a shift to forceful action rather than diplomacy.
Dayton investigators with Cincinnati police and a federal agent raided a narcotics ring forcing a halt to its $11,000 weekly operation. Five Dayton suspects face 30 state narcotics counts after undercover work traced heroin shipments totaling about $9,250 weekly to Cincinnati and other Ohio cities.
Perry County Board of Elections guards ballots nightly while Harold W. Hitchens Demands a recount for county engineer. Each candidate, Hitchens and James T. Davidson, had 5929 votes after the Nov 8 election, with recounts to begin next Monday after posting 100 for each of 65 precincts.
