An American tank column blasted through a Red trap in a North Korean mountain ravine and rolled northward toward the Manchurian border in four days. The bold advance opened a path through the trap and signaled a rapid push to the frontier.
In northeast Korea the 17th Infantry Regiment's tank column fought a three hour battle, with 125 Communists killed near the Manchurian frontier as Marines and Corsairs pressed the retreating Reds. Elsewhere the front saw fluctuating gains and heavy guerrilla activity.

Delegates at the Evangelical United Brethren Church General Conference, with about 800000 members, approved a resolution condemning social dancing for men and women together and urging schools and churches to support the church’s stance. Dr Raymond Weh said the resolution is not a mandate.

The AFL and CIO urged a tougher excess profits tax than President Truman proposed. They want 5 to 7 billion dollars in new revenue and favor 85 percent rate for excess profits, using 1946 to 1949 as the base. The AFL backs 75 percent rate with a broader capital-based tax base. The CIO pushes 85 percent and agrees on the base years.
New Delhi reported that Communist China's reply to India's second note protesting the invasion of Tibet was received today. The text was not released and no comment was given.
